NSW Upper House grouped candidates Anthony and Sharni Monaghan have criticised the Berejiklian government’s decision to allocate “billions of dollars” to constructing a new sports stadium at Moore Park.
“Like other New South Wales families, we see the $2 billion stadium bill as reflecting maladjusted priorities which are infesting the Liberal-National Party,” Mr Monaghan says.
“Of course, the money should be allocated to meet education and health needs,” the Upper House candidate said.
“The Berejiklian government deserves defeat at the election on Saturday 23 March.
“That is because the government and its party are unwilling to meet people’s needs but willing to favour donor interests, which is unacceptable in the modern world,” Mr Monaghan said.
Mrs Monaghan said the decision to demolish the existing stadium and rebuild another was taken hastily and without proper community consultation.
“Secret meetings to give favours to cash donors never bring good community outcomes,” Mrs Monaghan says.
“We expect the NSW Parliament, and especially the Upper House, to be a forum for voices of every interest,” Mrs Monaghan said.
“Those voices should be heeded honestly when it comes to government resource allocations.”
